Disordered system . بررسي سيستم هاي آشفته و مختل شده.مانند اسپين و ريزش (خرد شدن) شيشه.

Biologically motivated problems . بررسي مسائل مربوط به جهش زيستي .مانند تكامل گزينش پذيري جهت دار در سلول هاي بصري مغز.

من فکر می کنم که یکی از فیزیکدانان مطرح این قرن پروفسور جوان مخترع لیزر گازی بودند که نوبل سال 60 به ناحق به ایشون داده نشد.(صهیونیستها)

علی جوان (زادهٔ 9/10/1305 در تهران) دانشمند و مخترع ایرانی است. وی اولین لیزر گازی دنیا که ترکیبی از دو گاز هلیوم و نئون است و به همین نام نیز معروف است را اختراع کرد. این لیزر از نوع لیزر‌های بی خطر به حساب می‌آید و رنگ آن قرمز است. این لیزر در آزمایشگاه‌های دانشگاه‌ها برای بررسی پدیده‌هایی مانند تداخل امواج و آزمایش دو شکاف یانگ کاربرد دارد.

پیشینه
علی جوان پس از گذراندن تحصیلات در دبیرستان البرز، تحصیلات دانشگاهی خود را در دانشگاه تهران ادامه داد. سپس در سال ۱۹۴۸ به آمریکا مهاجرت می‌کند و تحصیلات خود را در مقطع دکترای فیزیک در دانشگاه کلمبیا ادامه می‌دهد. وی در سال ۱۹۶۴ با درجه دانشیاری به عضویت هیات علمی موسسه تکنولوژی ماساچوست (MIT)در آمد.

افتخارات
در سال ۱۹۶۰ وی موفق به اختراع لیزر گازی شد.
این فیزیکدان ایرانی در سال ۱۹۷۵ مهم‌ترین نشان انجمن نورشناسی آمریکا یعنی مدال فردریک ایوز را دریافت کرد. در جمله‌ای که در کنار این نشان حک شده‌است از آقای جوان به خاطر «پدید آوردن یک دستگاه نورشناختی (لیزر گازی) با کاربردهای بی‌سابقه در پژوهش‌های علمی» قدردانی فراوان شده‌است.
علی جوان در سال ۱۹۹۳ جایزهٔ علمی جهانی آلبرت اینشتین را دریافت نمود.
او همچنین در سال ۲۰۰۷ رتبه دوازدهمین آدم باهوش را در جهان کسب کرد.
